--Wockhardt: To launch Zaynich in Europe, emerging markets in next 2 years

NEW DELHI – Wockhardt Ltd. plans to launch its novel antibiotic Zaynich in the US, India, Europe, and emerging markets over the next two years as the company looks to accelerate growth from its specialty portfolio, according to an investor presentation released Thursday. The antibiotic recently received approvals in the US and India.

Wockhardt said Zaynich addresses pan drug-resistant gram-negative infections through a unique mechanism of action and has demonstrated a 96.8% clinical cure rate in global phase-III trials. The company also reported an 89% combined clinical and microbiological cure rate in the third phase, as mentioned in the investor presentation.

As part of its expansion plans, Wockhardt aims to enter seven to eight key emerging markets with a high burden of carbapenem-resistant infections over the next 18-24 months. These markets include countries in Latin America, Eurasia, the Gulf Cooperation Council region, and South and Southeast Asia. The company estimates the addressable market size for carbapenem-resistant infection treatments in emerging markets at $3 billion–$4 billion, with more than 1.5 million cases reported annually across these regions.

Apart from Zaynich, Wockhardt plans to expand its biotech business, strengthening its pharmaceutical business in Europe and India, and pursue artifical intelligence-enabled operational excellence initiatives in the next two years.

For the March quarter, Wockhardt reported a consolidated net profit of INR 1.66 billion on revenue of INR 9.65 billion. On Thursday, shares of the company ended flat at INR 2,072.95 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
