--Jain Irrigation commissions 20,000 tn/year biochar unit in Maharashtra 

MUMBAI – Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. Wednesday said it has commissioned a biochar facility with a capacity to process around 20,000 tonnes of agricultural and fruit processing residue in a year. The facility has been set up in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, and can process more than 50 tonnes of residue per day. The company is planning more such facilities and these are under development, it said.

Crop residue, once treated as waste, is converted into biochar and returned to farmers' fields to improve soil fertility, enhance water retention, and strengthen climate-ready agriculture, as per the company's exchange filing. "By turning agricultural residue into a valuable resource, we are creating a circular system that benefits the farmer and all other stakeholders", Anil Jain, managing director of Jain Irrigation Systems, said in the filing.

On Wednesday, shares of Jain Irrigation Systems closed 1.2% lower at INR 29.12 on the National Stock Exchange. For the March quarter, the company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 120.10 million on revenues of INR 18.24 billion.  End
