MUMBAI – Domestic airlines carried 13.82 million passengers in April, down 3.5% on year, according to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. In Jan-Apr, domestic airlines carried 57.55 million passengers, marginally lower than a year ago.

 

InterGlobe Aviation Ltd.'s IndiGo airline retained its dominant position and improved its market share to 65.0% in April from 63.3% in March. The airline carried nearly 8.98 million passengers in April, slightly lower than the 9.12 million in March. Its passenger load factor declined to 82.7% in April from 83.5% in the previous month.

 

The Air India group's market share declined to 24.7% in April from 26.2% a month earlier. Its passenger load factor declined to 78.5% in April from 82.3% in March. The airline carried 3.41 million passengers during the month, down from 3.77 million passengers carried in March.

 

Akasa Air's market share improved to 5.8% in April from 5.4% in March, while its passenger load factor increased to 91.8% from 90.5%. The airline carried 795,000 passengers during the month, marginally up from 779,000 in March.

 

SpiceJet's market share declined slightly to 3.4% from 3.8% in March. Its passenger load factor declined to 80.7% from 82.8% in March. The airline carried 474,000 passengers during April, down from 541,000 in the previous month.  End
