AHMEDABAD– Escorts Kubota Ltd. sold 12,310 tractors in May, up 18.9% year-on-year, the company said in an exchange filing Monday. Of this, 11,887 units were sold in India, up 22.5% on year. Meanwhile, the company's exports declined 35% on year to 423 units for the month.
"Growth momentum (of growth in the domestic tractor sales) continued in May, 2026, with healthy performance across wholesale and retail segments. This was supported by favourable farm sentiment, adequate reservoir levels, and sustained rural demand," the company said. It, however, forewarned about the near-term headwinds including, rising input costs, particularly fertilisers, softer prices for select cash crops, and evolving geo-political developments, which could affect customer affordability and input availability ahead of the kharif season. "While emerging El Nino conditions may influence rainfall distribution, strong reservoir levels and resilient underlying demand provide a supportive base."
Overall, Escorts Kubota sees rural fundamentals remain resilient and that it would monitor monsoon progression and input cost trends.
For the first two months of 2026-27 (Apr-Mar), the company sold 23,167 tractors, up 21.4% year-on-year, of which 22,285 units were sold in India, up 24.8% on year. Meanwhile, the company's exports declined 28.4% on year to 882 units for the Apr-May period.
The company's construction equipment business sold 450 machines in May, up 40.2% when compared with the sale of 321 units in the same month last year. For the first two months of FY27, the company sold 846 construction equipment, up 17.3% year-on-year.
"In May, the construction equipment industry saw modest growth on a low base from last year, supported by infrastructure execution and strong project pipeline. Equipment utilisation remained stable, driven by government capex and ongoing projects," the company said. It added that despite the geopolitical risks in West Asia and input cost pressures, the demand stayed "resilient". To it, the near-term sentiment is "cautiously positive", with growth expected to continue through the year.
Escorts Kubota had reported a net profit of INR 3.25 billion for the March quarter on a revenue of INR 29.51 billion. At 1017 IST, its shares traded 1.1% lower on the National Stock Exchange at INR 2,829.50. End
