--Wockhardt gets US FDA approval for co's antibiotic Zaynich
MUMBAI – Wockhardt Ltd. has received the US Food and Drug Administration's approval for its injectable antibiotic Zaynich, according to an exchange filing from the company Saturday. Zaynich is used to treat adult patients with complicated urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis.
The antibiotic targets multiple penicillin-binding proteins simultaneously. "This unique, multi-target synergy provides bactericidal activity against the most challenging drug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria for which there are currently very limited treatment options," the company said.
For the March quarter on a consolidated basis, Wockhardt reported a net profit of INR 1.66 billion on revenues of INR 9.65 billion. Friday, its shares closed at INR 2,031.40 on the National Stock Exchange, up 15% from Wednesday. The stock market was shut Thursday for Id-ul-Zuha (Bakri Id). End
