MUMBAI – NMDC Ltd. Friday posted robust numbers for the March quarter, with sharp rise in both its bottom line and top line mainly due to a rise in sales of iron ore and hot-rolled coil and sheets. The company's bottom line missed the Street's expectations but its revenue was much higher than estimates. Its net profit growth for the March quarter was the highest in nine quarters and the revenue growth was highest in over four years.

The company reported a net profit of INR 20.20 billion for the March quarter, up 35% on year and over 16% sequentially. Analysts had expected the company to post a net profit of INR 21.52 billion. Its revenue from operations rose around 61% on year and 49% sequentially to INR 111.73 billion, much higher than expectations of INR 91.47 billion.

The company's revenue was aided by humongous growth in its hot-rolled coil and sheets segment. Revenue from the segment soared to INR 29.47 billion for the reporting quarter from INR 1.03 billion a year ago. Revenue from the iron ore segment, which accounts for around 67% of the company's total revenue, rose over 17% to INR 74.56 billion. NMDC's sales from the pellet and other minerals segment rose 86% on year to INR 9.46 billion.

NMDC's total expenses for the March quarter rose over 71% on year to INR 87.26 billion, led by a rise in purchase of stock-in-trade. Its expenses on royalty and other levies rose 11.5% on year to INR 32.35 billion while its purchases of stock-in-trade rose to INR 28.37 billion from INR 832.90 million a year ago. The company's other expenses fell over 2% to INR 8.38 billion.

The company will pay INR 1 per share as final dividend. For 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), it reported a net profit of INR 74.21 billion, up around 11% on year. Its revenue for the year rose 33% to INR 315.54 billion. The company declared its March quarter results after market hours Friday. Shares of NMDC closed at INR 87.99 on the National Stock Exchange, down 4.7%.  End
