--Moody's official: India well-placed to meet extra data-centre power demand

--ICRA official: See share of renewables at 38% of power generation by FY30

MUMBAI – India's power sector is well-placed to meet the demand for extra power driven by the growth of data centres over the next five years, Ray Tay, associate managing director and digitial infrastructure franchise lead for Asia Pacific at Moody's, said Monday. Data centre growth across the Asia-Pacific is expected to more than double over the next five years, Tay said at a joint Moody's-ICRA media briefing. India and Malaysia are likely to lead data centre capacity growth within south and southeast Asia.

According to Moody's, recent improvements in distribution company performance are credit-positive for India's power sector, with sustained progress hinging on further reforms. Moreover, the share of electricity generation from renewable sources, including hydroelectric power, will increase to 38% by the financial year 2029-30 (Apr-Mar), compared to 26% in FY26, according to ICRA.  End
