MUMBAI – Suzlon Energy Ltd.'s consolidated net profit fell year-on-year for the first time in eight quarters, even as the contraction was milder than what the Street had pencilled in. The company's revenue from operations, however, missed the consensus estimate.
The renewable energy solution player's net profit for the quarter under review fell nearly 6% to INR 11.14 billion. Analysts had expected profit to be sharply lower at INR 7.76 billion. The company's top line rose 45% year-on-year to INR 54.68 billion for the March quarter, against the Street's estimate of INR 56.95 billion.
Sales from the wind turbine generator segment rose 51% on year to INR 47.42 billion, but those from its foundry and forging business were flat at INR 1.68 billion. Its revenues from operations and maintenance services rose by almost 18% to INR 6.95 billion.
The company got an exceptional gain of INR 700 million during the quarter. The deferred tax gains fell to INR 2.84 billion in the reporting quarter from INR 6.30 billion a year ago. Adjusted for deferred tax assets and an exceptional income, Suzlon Energy's March quarter profit rose 36% on year.
The company's operating profit was reined in due to INR 1.79 billion in inventory-related expenses, compared with INR 257 million in inventory gains a year ago. Meanwhile, the company's cost of raw materials rose almost 43% year-on-year to INR 35.26 billion, the lowest rise in eight quarters. The energy player's total expenses went up 45% year-on-year to INR 47.57 billion in the March quarter.
Suzlon Energy's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation for the reporting quarter increased by 31% on year to INR 9.64 billion. EBITDA margin contracted by 80 basis points on year to 17.6%. The renewable energy company's execution was at 830 megawatts. Most brokerages had expected the company to execute orders totalling 820-900 MW during the period.
Suzlon Energy's order book for its wind turbines segment stood at 5.70 gigawatts as on Mar. 31 and at 5.89 GW to date. The share of orders from the engineering, procurement, and construction division rose marginally to 28% at the end of the reporting quarter from 27% in the December quarter. In the year-ago quarter, the share of engineering, procurement, and construction orders was at 24%.
"... we continue to see strong demand for wind energy solutions. Our current orderbook provides strong revenue visibility with execution ramp-up expected over the next few quarters," Ajay Kapur, the chief executive officer of Suzlon Group, said in the earnings press release.
In 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), the company's consolidated net profit rose 53% to INR 31.63 billion. Its consolidated revenue rose 54% to INR 166.79 billion. EBITDA rose 63% to INR 30.22 billion. Contribution margin from wind turbine generators stood at 24.5% in FY26 and the company executed orders worth 2.46 GW during the year.
Suzlon Energy's shares rose briefly after the company announced its results. Shares closed 0.5% higher at INR 53.99 on the National Stock Exchange on Monday. End
