NEW DELHI – Zydus Lifesciences Ltd. Tuesday approved buyback of up to 9.56 million shares or nearly 1% of the company's paid-up equity shares at INR 1,150 per share, which is a premium of over 16% to Monday's closing price. The company announced the buyback offer during market hours. It will spend up to INR 11 billion on buyback of shares.

"The buyback is proposed to be made from all of the equity shareholders/beneficial owners of the Company, including the promoters and members of the promoter group of the Company," the company said in an exchange filing. 

The board has fixed May 29 as the record date to determine shareholders eligible to participate in the buyback. The pharmaceutical major said it may revise the buyback price upward and reduce the number of shares proposed for repurchase up to one working day before the record date, without changing the overall buyback size. 

 

As of May 15, promoters and promoter group entities held nearly 75% stake in the company. Foreign portfolio investors owned 6.9%, insurance companies held 6.1%, and mutual funds owned 4.9%.

 

For the March quarter, Zydus Lifesciences reported consolidated net profit of INR 12.73 billion on revenues of INR 75.87 billion. Tuesday, shares of the company ended at INR 1,018.90 on the National Stock Exchange, up over 2%.  End
