MUMBAI – The bottom line of Cochin Shipyard Ltd. declined for the third time in a row in the March quarter even as its total expenses declined substantially. The company's expenses fell for the first time in 11 quarters. Its revenue from operations also fell during the quarter under review, after moderating in the last couple of quarters, as sales from ship repairing operations fell sharply.

 

The company's net profit for the quarter under review tanked 24% on year but rose over 57% on quarter to INR 2.16 billion. Its revenue from operations fell 26.5% on year to INR 12.14 billion. Sequentially, the top line for the quarter rose over 4%. The company earned INR 1.49 billion during the quarter as other income, down around 4% on year. Including this, its total income was INR 13.63 billion, down almost 25%.

 

Segment-wise, the company's revenue from shipbuilding operations rose over 8% on year to INR 8.84 billion while its sales from ship repair plunged around 61% to INR 3.30 billion. The share of the ship repair segment in the company's overall revenue fell to 27% from 51% in the year-ago quarter. The company's operating margin for the quarter expanded to 28% from 23% a year ago.

 

The company's overall expenditure was INR 10.51 billion, down 26.5% on year. Its raw material costs fell nearly 9% on year to INR 5.95 billion. Costs incurred towards subcontracts and other direct expenses fell 32% on year to INR 2.36 billion while employee benefit expenses rose over 9% on year to INR 1.22 billion.

 

The company announced a final dividend of INR 1.5 per share. For the financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), Cochin Shipyard's net profit fell 24% from FY25 to INR 6.43 billion. Its revenue from operations for the year fell around 5% to INR 43.08 billion. The company detailed its results after market hours. Friday, its shares closed at INR 1,594.50 on the National Stock Exchange, down 3% from Thursday.  End
