EIA says US natural gas stocks up 85 bcf in week ended May 8

MUMBAI – Natural gas inventories in the US rose 85 billion cubic feet in the week ended May 8, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. The inventory was 6.5% higher than the five-year average for this time of the year, the administration said in its weekly report Thursday. 

 

Total working gas in underground storage was 2.29 trillion cubic feet as of May 8. The stocks were 140 billion cubic feet higher than the five-year average of 2.15 trillion cubic feet and 51 billion cubic feet above the levels in the previous year, the administration said. 

 

Total working gas remained within the five-year historical range. All five regions, which include the East, Midwest, Pacific, South Central, and the Mountain region, recorded a rise in stocks during the week, according to the data.

 

At 1130 IST, the most-active June contract of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange was down 0.1% at $2.917 per million British thermal units.  End
