MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Saturday, Thursday and Friday and over Kerala and Mahe on Thursday and Friday. For the next seven days, most parts of southern India are likely to receive heavy rainfall, it said.

The weather department also expects heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh from Tuesday to Friday and over Assam and Meghalaya from Monday to Friday. Such weather conditions are likely under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation that lies over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and its neighbouring regions in the lower and middle tropospheric levels, the department said.

Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in parts of west Rajasthan during the next seven days, east Rajasthan from Tuesday to Friday, west Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday, and in Gujarat state till Thursday, the weather agency said. Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail in some pockets of Konkan and Goa till Sunday.

A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3–5 degrees Celsius is likely over northwest India till Friday. In central India, a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2–4 degrees Celsius is likely till Friday. A rise in maximum temperatures by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely over Gujarat by Sunday. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over other parts of the country till Friday, the department said.  End
