MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during the next seven days, over Lakshadweep over the weekend, and over south interior Karnataka till Saturday. The wind discontinuity runs from an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area and its neighbouring regions to southwest Madhya Pradesh across Vidarbha, Marathwada, interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu at the lower tropospheric level, which is resulting in rainfall over parts of southern India. 

 

A fresh spell of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at 40–60 kilometres per hour is likely over parts of northwest India from Monday to Thursday. Hailstorm activity is likely in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on Monday and Tuesday, Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, and Uttarakhand on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the weather department.

 

Hailstorm activity is likely in Gangetic West Bengal on Friday and in Jharkhand till Saturday, the department said. Widespread moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Wednesday and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Saturday and again on Tuesday, the weather agency said. 

 

Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected in parts of west Rajasthan and Gujarat state during the next seven days. Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Konkan and Goa till Sunday, the department said.  End
