India got 79% above-normal rainfall in week to Wed at 21.0 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received average rainfall of 21.0 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 79% above the normal of 11.7 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. During Mar. 1–May. 6, the country received 86.0 millimetres of rainfall, 8% above the normal of 79.3 millimetres.
All four homogeneous regions of the country recorded above-normal showers during the week. Rainfall in south peninsular India was 26% above normal at 14.9 millimetres, while in central India it was a whopping 226% above normal at 9.8 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. In east and northeast India, rainfall was 48% above normal at 57.3 millimetres. In northwest India, precipitation was 161% above normal at 18.3 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 17 received 'large excess' rainfall and three received 'excess' showers. Railfall was normal in six subdivisions, according to the data. Rainfall was 'large deficient' in five subdivisions and 'deficient' in three, the weather department said. Two subdivisions received no rainfall. End
