MUMBAI – Under the influence of multiple weather systems, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala in the next seven days, and over south interior Karnataka on Thursday and Friday, the India Meteorological Department said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, accompanied by a continuous spell of light to moderate showers are also likely over most parts of south peninsular India in the next five days, the weather department said.

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Telangana, while another lies over the Gulf of Mannar. A north-south trough runs from north interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. These weather systems are likely to influence weather in south India for the next five to seven days, the weather bureau said.

A western disturbance acting as a trough lies to the northwest of the country, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Rajasthan. A second upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Uttar Pradesh. These weather systems are likely to cause light to moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of northwest India till Friday, the weather department said. Another western disturbance is likely to affect the region from Sunday, causing another wet spell over many parts till Tuesday, the department said.

The presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over central Assam is likely to lead to a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of northeast India till Sunday, the bureau said. Similar weather is expected over multiple parts of east India in the next seven days, it said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are also likely over parts of Jharkhand on Saturday.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh till Thursday, and over Chhattisgarh during the next five days, the department said.

Heatwave conditions are expected in parts of west Rajasthan from Saturday to Monday, the weather bureau said. Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to persist in pockets of Konkan to Goa till Saturday, and in Gujarat from Saturday to Tuesday, the bureau said.  End
