--Bhutan, World Bank to provide $515 mln for Dorjilung hydro power project

--CONTEXT: Tata Power, Druk Green PPP executing Dorjilung power project

MUMBAI – Tata Power Co. Ltd. Tuesday said the World Bank and the government of Bhutan have signed financing agreements of $515 million for the company's 1,125 megawatt Dorjilung hydroelectric power project in Bhutan. The project will account for around one-third of Bhutan's total energy generation, the company said in an exchange filing.

The Dorjilung project is a special-purpose vehicle in which Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corp. holds a 60% stake and Tata Power owns the remaining 40%. It will generate over 5,500 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity annually, closing Bhutan's seasonal energy gap during winters and exporting surplus power to India during the summer.

Earlier this year, the World Bank had approved $300 million in concessional financing for the Dorjilung hydropower project. The package included $150 million as a grant from the International Development Association, $215 million from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and up to $300 million from the International Finance Corp. .

For the quarter ended December, Tata Power had reported a consolidated net profit of INR 7.72 billion on revenues of INR 139.48 billion. Tuesday, the company's shares closed 0.3% higher at INR 442.65 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
