India power generation up 2.4% on yr at 136.96 bln kWh in April

KOLKATA – In April, electricity generation in India increased 2.36% year-on-year and 1.84% on month to 136.96 billion kWh, data released by the Central Electricity Authority of India showed. In April 2025, total power generation from all sources stood at 133.80 billion kWh, and in March 2026, it stood at 134.49 billion kWh.

 

Total electricity generation includes the power bought from Bhutan.

 

Thermal power generation increased 1.50% year-on-year to 120.86 billion kWh, and nuclear power generation rose 3.70% on year to 5.13 billion kWh. Hydropower generation increased 12.90% to 10.86 billion kWh.

 

India had set a total electricity generation target of 1.72 trillion kWh for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar).
