Cong makes a comeback in Kerala; BJP poised to win Assam, Bengal

NEW DELHI – The Indian National Congress made a comeback in Kerala after 10 years as it unseated the Left Democratic Front, while the Bharatiya Janata Party is poised to win Assam for the third consecutive term and West Bengal for the first time, as per the official count of votes by 1800 IST.
According to data from the Election Commission of India, the Congress-led United Democratic Front has won 89 of the 140 seats in Kerala, which is already above the simple majority mark. Of these, the Congress won 62, the Indian Union Muslim League 20 and the Kerala Congress seven seats. The coalition is also leading on another three seats.
In Assam, the BJP has won 58 of the 126 seats, while leading on another 24. The Congress has won four, with a lead on another 15. The saffron party also looked poised to make a cut in West Bengal for the first time as it was maintaining a consistent lead on 164 seats and has already won 41 seats. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's All India Trinamool Congress, on the other hand, is leading in only 67 constituencies and has won 15 seats.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has won 11 of the 30 seats in Puducherry, while maintaining a lead on another four seats. Of these, the All India N.R. Congress won nine and led on two, while the BJP won two and led on as many seats. The alliance is already on the threshold of the simple majority mark of 16 in the Union Territory.
In Tamil Nadu, actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has won 31 seats and was maintaining a lead on another 76 seats. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has won 13 seats and was leading on another 48, even as its arch-rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, an ally of the BJP, has won eight seats and leading on 37.
