IMD sees heavy rain in parts of east India till Wed, in south in next 5 days

MUMBAI – The presence of multiple weather systems is likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Wednesday and over Bihar on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Heavy showers are also expected over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala in the next five days, over Andhra Pradesh till Tuesday, and over south interior Karnataka on Wednesday and Thursday, the weather department said.

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over interior Odisha, and a trough runs from south Chhattisgarh to Manipur across the cyclonic circulation over interior Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Meghalaya, the weather bureau said. These weather systems are also expected to cause thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour over parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha till Tuesday, and Bihar on Wednesday, the bureau said. Hailstorms are expected over parts of Jharkhand and Odisha till Tuesday. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over several parts of east India till Friday, the bureau said.

 

A north-south trough runs from Vidarbha to the Comorin Area across Telangana, Rayalaseema and interior Tamil Nadu, the weather department said. Under its influence, thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh till Tuesday, the department said. A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over most parts of south peninsular India till Friday, it said.

 

Under the influence of the trough running from Chhattisgarh to Manipur and an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over northeast Bangladesh, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Arunachal Pradesh till Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over multiple parts of northeast India till Thursday, the bureau said.

 

A western disturbance acting as a trough lies to the northwest of the country, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Haryana. A second upper air cyclonic circulation lies over east Madhya Pradesh, the weather bureau said. These weather systems are expected to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over most parts of northeast India till Friday. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are expected over parts of east Uttar Pradesh till Tuesday, the bureau said.

 

The presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over east Madhya Pradesh is expected to cause thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour over parts of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh till Tuesday. A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh from Wednesday to Friday and over Vidarbha till Thursday, the weather department said.

 

Hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail in pockets of Andhra Pradesh till Wednesday, in Gujarat on Saturday and Sunday, and over Konkan and Goa from Wednesday to Friday, the department said.  End
