MUMBAI – Coal India Ltd. reported an on-year decline of 2% in sales to 63.2 million tonnes in April as coal production fell 9.7% to 56.1 million tonnes, according to provisional data released by the company Friday. Its subsidiary company, South Eastern Coalfields, posted a 9.3% on-year rise in its production to 15.3 million tonnes.
Mahanadi Coalfields was the second-highest contributor to Coal India's production, which stood at 13.8 million tonnes. However, Mahanadi's production growth fell for the month by 14% on year.
In terms of sales, Mahanadi Coalfields was the top performer among Coal India's subsidiaries. Its sales grew 7.2% on year to 18.1 million tonnes. South Eastern Coalfields' sales for April was at 15.9 million tonnes, which grew over 4% on year.
For the quarter ended March, Coal India reported consolidated net profit of INR 108.39 billion on revenues of INR 464.90 billion. Thursday, shares of the company closed marginally higher at INR 481.45 on the National Stock Exchange. End
