MUMBAI – Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. Friday reported a 33% on-year increase in its automobile despatches for April to a record high 239,646 units. Its exports grew 44% on year but fell almost 15% on month to 40,054 units while its domestic sales grew 31% on year and 12% on month to 199,592 units, the company said in a press release.
Maruti Suzuki sold 96,725 passenger cars to dealerships in April, up from 68,244 a year ago. The company saw a marked increase in the wholesale sales of its mini cars to 16,066 units in April from 6,332 units a year ago. It sells the Alto and the S-Presso in this category.
Wholesale sales of its compact and mid-size cars combined climbed 30% on year and 12% on month to 80,659 units. Models sold under this segment include Baleno, Celerio, Ciaz, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR. Despatches of its Eeco vans grew 14% on year and 15% on month to 13,087 units. In all, domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 187,704 units in April, up 35% on year and almost 13% on month.
Sales of cars to other original equipment manufacturers such as Toyota moderated to 8,470 units in April, down 14% on year and almost 4% on month.
For the March quarter, Maruti Suzuki reported a net profit of INR 35.91 billion on revenues of INR 524.49 billion. Thursday, its shares closed 0.4% higher at INR 13,314 on the National Stock Exchange. End
