Domestic sales push Eicher Motors April volume up 7% on year to 7,318 units

NEW DELHI – Eicher Motors Ltd. sold 7,318 commercial vehicles in April through its joint venture VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., clocking a near 7% year-on-year increase. Of this, 7,159 were Eicher trucks and buses, up 6.6% on year, and 159 were Volvo-branded trucks and buses, up 23.3% on year.
The automobile major sold 6,797 Eicher trucks and buses in India during the month, up 8.6% on year. This included 3,243 small commercial vehicles and light-medium trucks with a payload capacity of under 18.5 tonnes, rising 17.9% on year. At the same time, sales of heavy-duty trucks exceeding a payload capacity of 18.5 tonnes grew almost 15% on year to 1,516 units in April. Meanwhile, sales of light and medium duty buses declined 2.5% on year to 1,976 units and those of heavy duty buses fell almost 62% on year to 62 units.
Total exports by the company fell over 21% on year to 362 units in April. Of this, 226 were small commercial vehicles and light-medium duty units, down over 24% from the same month last year.
For the December quarter, Eicher Motors had reported consolidated net profit of INR 14.21 billion on revenue of INR 61.14 billion. Thursday, shares of the company closed over 1% lower at INR 7,109 on the National Stock Exchange. End
