IMD sees very heavy rain in parts of east India Fri-Sat, northeast till Sun

MUMBAI – The presence of multiple weather systems over east and northeast India is likely to cause very heavy rainfall in parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim Friday and Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Similar weather conditions are expected over parts of Arunachal Pradesh till Friday, over Assam and Meghalaya Saturday, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Sunday, the department said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Bangladesh while another such system lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. A trough runs in the westerlies to the northeast of the country. These weather systems are also likely to cause heavy showers over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Sunday, over Bihar Saturday, over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Wednesday, and over Assam and Meghalaya during the weekend, the weather bureau said.
Hailstorms are expected over parts of Odisha Friday, it said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting up to 70 km per hour are also likely over many parts of east India till Monday, it said. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over several parts of eastern India in the next seven days and over northeast India during the next five days.
A western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over Kashmir, and an induced upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Punjab. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Uttar Pradesh while another fresh western disturbance is likely to form Saturday, the weather department said. Under the influence of these weather systems, light to moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over multiple parts of northwest India till Wednesday, it said.
A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in the next five days and over Vidarbha from Saturday to Monday, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting up to 70 km per hour are likely over parts of Chhattisgarh Monday, it said.
Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala till Saturday and over south interior Karnataka till Friday, the bureau said. Hailstorms are also likely over parts of south interior Karnataka till Friday, it said. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over many parts of south peninsular India till Monday.
Heatwave conditions are likely to persist over parts of Vidarbha till Friday and over west Rajasthan during the weekend, the weather department said. Hot and humid weather conditions are expected in pockets of Odisha till Friday, in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till Monday, and in Andhra Pradesh till Saturday, the department said. End
