MUMBAI – Domestic airlines carried 14.42 million passengers in March, down 0.9% from a year ago, data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation late Wednesday showed. In the March quarter, domestic airlines carried 43.73 million passengers, up 1.2% on year, the DGCA said.
InterGlobe Aviation Ltd.'s IndiGo airline retained its dominant position, improving its market share slightly to 63.3% in March from 63.1% in February. The airline carried 9.12 million passengers during March, up from 8.87 million passengers in February. Its passenger load factor declined to 83.5% in March from 89.6% in the previous month.
The Air India group's market share declined to 26.2% in March from 27.0% a month earlier. Its passenger load factor declined to 82.3% in March from 88.3% in February. The airline carried 3.77 million passengers during the month, slightly below 3.79 million passengers carried in February.
Akasa Air's market share improved to 5.4% in March from 4.9% in February, while its passenger load factor declined to 90.5% from 93.3%. The airline carried 779,000 passengers during the month, up from 689,000 in February.
SpiceJet's market share declined slightly to 3.8% from 3.9% in February. Its passenger load factor declined to 82.8% from 89.0% in February. The airline carried 541,000 passengers during the month, down from 555,000 in the previous month. End
