NEW DELHI – The Ministry of Coal has issued a letter of award to Kartikay Vayunandana Pvt. Ltd. to set up a coal gasification plant in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, under the financial incentive scheme for promotion of coal or lignite gasification projects. The plant, with an investment of INR 7.93 billion and a capacity of 75,900 tonnes per annum, will produce acetic acid from coal.

 

The plant has been given the letter in category III of round II of the financial incentive scheme, which has an outlay of INR 85 billion for coal gasification projects. "The scheme continues to gain strong momentum, with seven projects already under implementation in the first round," the ministry said in a release. 

 

The project is expected to boost indigenous production of downstream chemicals, reduce import dependence, and promote value addition of domestic coal. Category III of the scheme supports demonstration projects and small-scale product-based plants with financial assistance of up to INR 1 billion per project or 15% of the capital expenditure, whichever is lower, enabling innovation and faster adoption of gasification technologies, according to the release.  End
