India got 46% below-normal rainfall in week to Wed at 5.6 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 5.6 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 46% below the normal of 10.3 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. During Mar. 1–Apr. 29, the country received 65.1 millimetres of rainfall, 4?low the normal of 67.6 millimetres.

 

All four homogeneous regions of the country recorded below-normal showers during the week. Rainfall in south peninsular India was 70% below normal at 3.0 millimetres while in central India it was 69% below normal at 0.7 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. In east and northeast India, rainfall was 22% below normal at 26.6 millimetres. In northwest India, precipitation was 75% below normal at 1.7 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 21 received "large deficient" rainfall and two received "deficient" showers. Railfall was normal in five subdivisions, according to the data. Rainfall was "large excess" in three subdivisions, the weather department said. Five subdivisions received no rainfall.  End
