NEW DELHI – Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd. Tuesday reported multifold on-year growth in its net profit for the March quarter on the back of robust premium income. However, the bottom line declined sequentially due to higher commissions and employees remuneration. The insurer's bottom line bettered the Street's expectation.

 

The insurer's net profit skyrocketed to INR 1.11 billion for the March quarter. The company reported an on-year rise in net profit after six quarters. Sequentially, the bottom line fell over 13%. Analysts had estimated the insurance company's net profit at INR 661.75 million for the reporting quarter.

 

The total income for the March quarter rose 14% on year and over 2% on quarter to INR 45.45 billion. Of this, gross premium income and net written premium rose over 16% on year each to INR 59.68 billion and 55.99 billion, respectively. Its net premium earned grew nearly 14% on year to INR 43.27 billion. The net income from investments also rose over 16% on year to INR 2.16 billion for the March quarter.

 

The health insurer saw narrowing of its underwriting losses during the quarter to INR 1.54 billion from a loss of INR 2.75 billion a year ago and a loss of INR 1.25 billion a quarter ago.

 

 

The company reported operating profit of INR 640 million for the quarter against operating loss of INR 869 million a year ago. Total expenses increased 10% on year and over 2% sequentially to INR 44.81 billion. The company reported 4% on-year rise in net commission to INR 7.93 billion for the quarter. Its employees remuneration and welfare expenses grew over 37% on year to INR 6.29 billion. The insurer spent INR 872.5 million on advertisement and publicity up over 83% on year during the quarter.

 

The company detailed its quarterly earnings post market hours. Shares of the insurer ended at INR 517.30 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.3% from the previous close. For 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), Star Health reported nearly 14% fall in its net profit at INR 5.57 billion. The total income was INR 173.71 billion, up over 11% from FY25.  End
