NEW DELHI – The textile ministry is mulling removing duties on various inputs and intermediate products used in textile manufacturing in view of the disruptions caused by the war in West Asia, a senior official in the ministry said Tuesday. "In view of the Wets Asia crisis, we have conducted a lot of consultations with stakeholders," Bipin Menon, trade advisor in the textile ministry, said at an inter-ministerial press briefing here.

He said the ministry has proposed removing customs duties on several input and intermediate products for the textile sector. "We have also looked at removal or deferment of anti-dumping duties on some products," he said.

The ministry is also holding consultations with the export promotion councils and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to address export-related issues. "We have proposed to use Jeddah as the alternate point to send products to the Middle East countries," he said.

The war between the US and Iran has disrupted cargo and energy flows in the Persian Gulf since Feb. 28. Its ripple effects are being felt across multiple sectors. Apart from hitting India's energy procurement, the conflict has affected the country's exports to West Asia.  End
