MUMBAI – Securities and Exchange Board of India's Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said the regulator will speed up its drive to simplify and rationalise regulations for ease of doing business for all market participants. Speaking at the SEBI's 38th foundation day, Pandey said the regulator will strengthen governance and risk management frameworks and capabilities.
Pandey said Indian financial markets stood out at times of distress amid geopolitical tensions, shift in trade dynamics, and rapid technological changes. "It is this foundation that has enabled continued capital formation and market activity, even in uncertain times."
The market regulator will invest in technology-led supervision and collaborate with institutions for market development for capital formation to accelerate economic growth, Pandey said. Speaking at the event, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the regulator should consult with global counterparts and leading markets on emerging issues.
Talking about strengthening governance and risk management frameworks, Pandey said investors must remain aware and responsible in their participation. "Industry participants must move beyond compliance to a deeper commitment to fairness, integrity and innovation. Intermediaries must recognise that they are often the first point of trust for investors." End
