IMD sees heatwaves over parts of north till Mon, central India till Tue

MUMBAI – Heatwave conditions are expected to persist over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi till Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Heatwaves are also likely over pockets of west Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan till Monday, and over east Uttar Pradesh and central India till Tuesday, the weather department said.
Warm night conditions are expected to continue in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and east Uttar Pradesh till Saturday, the weather department said.
The bureau has forecast hot and humid weather in parts of coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Saurashtra, Kutch, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Bihar till Saturday, and in Tripura till Monday. Similar weather conditions are likely in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till Thursday, in Kerala till Monday, and in Andhra Pradesh till Saturday, the bureau said.
Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya Saturday and Sunday, and over Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram from Monday to Thursday, the weather bureau said. A few spells of very heavy showers are also likely over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from Monday to Thursday, the bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over parts of Assam and Meghalaya Sunday and Monday.
A trough runs from east Uttar Pradesh to south Bangladesh across Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal, which is expected to cause heavy rainfall in parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the weekend, the weather department said. Thunderqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim Saturday and Sunday, over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand from Monday to Wednesday, and over Bihar on Monday and Tuesday, it said.
The same weather system is likely to cause hailstorms over parts of Jharkhand Sunday, the weather bureau said. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over most parts of east India till Thursday, the bureau said.
A western disturbance acting as a trough runs to the northwest of the country, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Haryana, the weather department said. Under the influence of these systems, light to moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till Thursday, the department said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over parts of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan till Thursday.
A trough runs from east Vidarbha to the Comorin area across Telangana, interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, which is expected to cause light to moderate rainfall over parts of Chhattisgarh from Sunday to Tuesday, over Vidarbha Tuesday, and over Madhya Pradesh Monday and Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather is likely over multiple parts of south peninsular India till Tuesday, and over central Maharashtra and Marathawada till Saturday, the bureau said. End
