IMD sees heavy rain, hail, thundersqualls over parts of east India Sat-Tue

MUMBAI – Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bangladesh and a trough running from circulation to north interior Odisha, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from Saturday to Monday, the India Meteorological Department said. Hailstorms are expected over parts of Jhakrkhand on Sunday and Monday, the weather department said.

 

Thundersqualls with wind speed reaching 50–60 kilometre per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Saturday, over Bihar during the weekend, over Jharkhand on Sunday and Monday, and over Gangetic West Bengal during from Sunday to Tuesday, the weather department said.

 

A trough running in the westerlies to the northeast of the country is likely to cause heavy rainfall over multiple parts of northeast India till Wednesday, with a few spells of very heavy rainfall expected over some parts of Arunachal Pradesh from Monday to Wednesday and over Assam and Meghalaya from Sunday to Wednesday, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are also likely over Assam and Meghalaya from Saturday to Monday, the bureau said.

 

Under the influence of a trough running from east Vidarbha to the Comorin area, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over parts of Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, and Marathawada till Saturday, the weather department said. Hailstorms are likely over parts of central Maharashtra and Marathawada till Friday, the department said.

 

A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over parts of Chhattisgarh on Sunday and Monday and over Madhya Pradesh on Monday, the weather bureau said.

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over coastal Tamil Nadu, which is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of south peninsular India till Monday, the weather department said.

 

A western disturbance lies to the northwest of the country, a trough runs from southeast Rajasthan to northeast Arabian Sea, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Rajasthan, the weather bureau said. These weather systems are expected to cause light to moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till Wednesday, the bureau said.

 

The same weather systems are also likely to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from Sunday to Tuesday, and over Uttar Pradesh Tuesday and Wednesday, the bureau said.

 

Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Kerala till Friday, over Rajasthan till Wednesday, and Madhya Pradesh till Monday, the weather bureau said. Heatwaves are also likely over parts of Bihar till Saturday, and over east Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh from Friday to Monday, the bureau said. Warm night conditions are also expected to prevail in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi till Sunday, and over west Uttar Pradesh and Odisha till Saturday, the bureau said.

 

Hot and humid weather conditions are likely over pockets of Konkan, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha till Saturday, over Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and coastal Karnataka till Monday, and over the coastal areas of Gujarat on Friday and Saturday, the weather department said.  End
