India got 45% below-normal rainfall in week to Wed at 5.5 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 5.5 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 45% below the normal of 10.0 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. During Mar. 1–Apr. 22, the country received 59.6 millimetres of rainfall, 4% above the normal of 57.3 millimetres.

 

All four homogeneous regions of the country recorded below-normal showers during the week. Rainfall in south peninsular India was 64% below normal at 3.2 millimetres, while in central India it was 56% below normal at 1.2 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. In east and northeast India, rainfall was 31?low normal at 21.2 millimetres. In northwest India, precipitation was 55% below normal at 3.5 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 21 received "large deficient" rainfall and five received "deficient" showers. Railfall was normal in three subdivisions and "excess" in three others, according to the data. There was no rainfall in four subdivisions.  End
