NEW DELHI – The Centre has notified the Aviation Turbine Fuel (Regulation of Marketing) Order, 2026, which enables blending of conventional jet fuel with bio-jet fuel or sustainable aviation fuel. The move aims to enable the use of cleaner aviation fuel with lower carbon emissions.
The order came into effect on Apr. 17 and replaces the Aviation Turbine Fuel (Regulation of Marketing) Order, 2001. The revised order defines "aviation turbine fuel as a complex mixture of hydrocarbons conforming to IS 1571 specification or its blend with synthesised hydrocarbons as specified in IS 17081," the petroleum ministry said in a notification on Apr. 17.
The formal inclusion of Indian Standard 17081 in the order enables oil companies to produce and supply sustainable aviation fuel for the domestic aviation industry. Sustainable aviation fuel is typically manufactured from biofuels using cooking oils, fats, or agricultural feedstocks. End
