NEW DELHI – In order to improve youth employability and industry readiness, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has expanded the eligibility criteria of the pilot phase of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme to include final-year students of graduate and postgraduate programmes. To avail the scheme, students will be required to submit a no objection certificate from their respective educational institutions during the application process, a government release said.

The no objection certificate will ensure that the internship will not interfere with students' academic requirements. "Authorised signatories include Heads of Department, Deans, Principals, or Training & Placement Officers," the release said.

The move is expected to unlock early access to structured internship opportunities in top companies across India for students, the government said. "Early exposure to professional environments helps students develop critical workplace competencies such as problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and adaptability, which are essential for success in today's dynamic economy," the release said.

Under the scheme interns receive a minimum financial assistance of INR 9,000 every month. More than 300 companies have participated in the pilot phase of the scheme to offer internship opportunities across roles and sectors.  End
