IMD sees hailstorms over parts of Maharashtra till Fri, Karnataka till Thu

MUMBAI – Under the influence of a trough running from Marathwada to Karnataka to Tamil Nadu, hailstorms are expected over parts of central Maharashtra till Friday, and over north interior Karnataka till Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over parts of Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, and Marathwada till Saturday, the weather department said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Tamil Nadu. This weather system, along with the above-mentioned trough, is likely to cause a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of south peninsula India till Sunday, the weather bureau said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam, while a trough in the westerlies runs along the northeast side of the country, the weather department said. These weather systems are expected to cause heavy rainfall over many parts of northeast India till Monday, with a few spells of very heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh from Saturday to Tuesday and over Assam and Meghalaya from Sunday to Tuesday, the department said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over Assam and Meghalaya on Sunday, it said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over several parts of northeast India till Tuesday.
The presence of the trough running in the westerlies is also likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the weekend, the weather bureau said. Light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over multiple parts of east India till Tuesday, the bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Saturday, over Bihar from Friday to Sunday, and over Gangetic West Bengal on Sunday and Monday, it said.
A fresh western disturbance lies to the northwest of the country, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Rajasthan, the weather department said. Under the influence of these weather systems, light to moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi from Sunday to Tuesday. Similar weather is expected over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on Friday and Saturday, over Himachal Pradesh from Saturday to Tuesday, and over Uttarakhand during the weekend, the bureau said.
Heatwave conditions are expected over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on Friday and Saturday, over west Uttar Pradesh on Thursday and Saturday, over east Uttar Pradesh till Sunday, and over Rajasthan from Thursday to Sunday, the weather department said. Heatwaves are also likely over pockets of Madhya Pradesh from Thursday to Sunday, over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh from Thursday to Monday, and over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand till Thursday, the department said.
Hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail in pockets of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh till Sunday, in Gangetic West Bengal till Saturday, and in Tamil Nadu and Kerala till Friday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather is expected in parts of coastal Karnataka till Thursday, and in the coastal areas of Gujarat on Friday and Saturday.
Warm night conditions are expected in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi till Saturday, in Odisha from Friday to Sunday, and in Konkan and Goa from Thursday to Saturday, the weather bureau said. End
