NEW DELHI – "I expect to be bombing, because that is a better attitude to go with," US President Donald Trump said in a telephonic interview with CNBC Tuesday as the two-week ceasefire with Iran nears its end. Trump said US forces are prepared to move against Iran if need be, signalling that the ceasefire is unlikely to be extended.
He said the US is in a strong negotiating position and the conflict could still end with a "great deal". "Iran can make themselves into a great nation, that is, if they do the deal," he said. "They are tough people, but they have to use reason." The US president said Iran has to make itself "a legitimate country". He repeated his claim that the country's navy, air force, air defence systems, and radars are all "gone".
On the United Arab Emirates asking for a currency-swap line from the US Federal Reserve amid rising economic pressure from the war in West Asia, Trump said he was "surprised". He, however, added that it is "under consideration". "The UAE is a good ally of ours... I am surprised. They (the UAE) are really rich. I made them invest one trillion dollars in the US a year ago," the president said. End
