IMD sees heatwaves in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab till Fri

MUMBAI – Heatwave conditions are expected over parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab till Friday, over east Uttar Pradesh till Saturday, and over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and west Uttar Pradesh from Wednesday to Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Heatwaves are also likely over parts of Odisha and Rajasthan from Thursday to Saturday, over Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar till Wednesday, and over Vidarbha from Friday to Sunday, the weather department said.

 

Warm night conditions are expected to prevail in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi till Friday, in Chhattisgarh till Wednesday, and in Odisha from Thursday to Saturday, the weather bureau said.

 

Hot and humid weather conditions are expected over pockets of Gangetic West Bengal till Sunday, over Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh till Saturday, and over Konkan and Goa on Thursday and Friday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather conditions are expected over parts of coastal Gujarat on Friday and Saturday and over Kerala till Friday, the bureau said.

 

A trough runs from northwest Bihar to Manipur, which is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over many parts of northeast India till Thursday, the weather department said. Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Arunachal Pradesh from Wednesday to Saturday and over Assam and Meghalaya on Wednesday and Friday, with a few spells of very heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday and Tuesday and over Assam and Meghalaya from Saturday to Monday, the department said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over parts of Assam and Meghalaya on Wednesday and Saturday, it said.

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Chhattisgarh, the weather bureau said. A trough runs from the upper air cyclonic circulation over north Chhattisgarh to the Comorin area. These weather systems, combined with the trough running from Bihar to Manipur, are likely to cause a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds expected over several parts of east India till Monday, the bureau said.

 

Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal Sunday, the bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are also likely over parts of Bihar on Friday and Saturday and over Gangetic West Bengal on Sunday, it said.

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation also lies over Telangana, while an anti-cyclonic circulation lies over interior Maharashtra, adjoining Telangana and north interior Karnataka, the weather department said. Under the influence of these weather systems, light to moderate showers with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over most parts of south peninsular India till Saturday, the department said. Similar weather is also likely over parts of Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, and Marathwada till Saturday, with hailstorms expected over parts of central Maharashtra on Thursday and Friday, it said.

 

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over parts of Vidarbha till Wednesday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather is likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on Friday and Saturday, and over Himachal Pradesh during the weekend, the bureau said.  End
