NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose for the second consecutive week and hit a four-week high of $700.95 billion as of Apr. 10, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday showed. Reserves increased in the week when the rupee appreciated 0.4% against the dollar, owing to the RBI's recent regulatory measures in the foreign exchange segment.
Reserves rose $3.83 billion from a week ago, led by a $3.13 billion increase in foreign currency assets to $555.98 billion. Meanwhile, the value of the central bank's gold holdings rose $601 million to $121.34 billion as of Apr. 10.
Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen held by the central bank. End
