IMD sees heatwaves in parts of interior Maharashtra, south India till Sat

MUMBAI – Heatwave conditions are expected over parts of Marathwada, central Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana till Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Similar conditions are likely in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh till Sunday, over Odisha till Monday, and over Jharkhand from Sunday to Tuesday, the weather department said.

 

Hot and humid conditions are likely to continue in some pockets of Odisha till Thursday, over Gangetic West Bengal from Sunday to Thursday, over coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu till Monday, and over Kerala and Andhra Pradesh till Sunday, the weather bureau said. Warm night conditions are also expected to prevail in parts of Odisha till Monday, the bureau said.

 

Maximum temperatures in northwest India are expected to gradually fall by 2 degrees Celsius till Saturday, after which a rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely from Sunday to Tuesday, the weather department said. In central India, maximum temperatures are likely to fall by -3 degrees Celsius after Sunday.

 

In east India, maximum temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 3–4 degrees Celsius till Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Maximum temperatures in Maharashtra are likely to gradually fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius from Sunday to Tuesday. No significant change in temperatures is expected over the rest of the country, the bureau said.

 

A trough runs from Bihar to south Chhattisgarh, while an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north coastal Odisha. These weather systems are expected to cause heavy rainfall over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim over the weekend, the weather department said. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also expected over most parts of east India till Tuesday, the department said. 

 

Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Arunachal Pradesh from Saturday to Tuesday and over Assam and Meghalaya on Sunday and Monday, the weather bureau said. A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over several parts of northeast India in the next five days, the bureau said.

 

Currently, a western disturbance lies to the northwest of the country, and a trough runs from northwest Rajasthan to southwest Madhya Pradesh, the weather bureau said. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Pakistan. Under the infuence of these weather systems, light rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till Sunday. 

 

A north-south trough runs from Marathwada to the Gulf of Mannar, while an anti-cyclonic circulation lies over interior Maharashtra and adjoining Telangana and north interior Karnataka. These weather systems are expected to cause hailstorms over parts of north interior Karnataka during the weekend. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over multiple parts of south peninsular India till Tuesday, the weather department said. Similar weather is also expected over parts of central Maharashtra and Marathwada from Saturday to Tuesday, the department said.  End
