NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday discussed the situation in West Asia with France's President Emmanuel Macron over a telephone call. In a post on social media site X, Modi said both leaders agreed on the need to urgently restore safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
"We will continue our close cooperation to advance peace and stability in the region and beyond," Modi said in his post.
The war in West Asia started after the US and Israel bombed Tehran and killed the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameini, on Feb. 28. Since then, Iran has effectively shut the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting around a fifth of the world's crude oil supply. Sunday, Trump said the US Navy would close off the Strait of Hormuz after negotiators from both sides failed to reach an agreement on a peace deal. End
