NEW DELHI – Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor met here Wednesday to discuss strengthening of the energy sector partnership. The discussion also focused on seeking new growth opportunities for the two countries. "Expanding access to reliable American energy will further deepen our economic ties and support long-term energy security and diversity for both nations," Gor said in a post on social media platform X.

In a separate social media post, Puri said, "We held productive discussions on the bilateral energy cooperation between our countries and discussed ways to further strengthen our comprehensive energy relationship."

Earlier in the day, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal had said a delegation of Indian officials will visit the US on Apr. 20-22 for bilateral trade talks where India aims to finalise the contours of the trade deal. This is the first meeting between India and the US since they released a joint statement on the interim trade deal in February.

The two sides had announced an interim trade deal under which Washington scrapped the penal tariff of 25% on Indian goods and cut the reciprocal tariff to 18% from 25%. But later that month, the US Supreme Court quashed the reciprocal tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. Currently, the Trump administration has imposed a blanket 10% tariff on all goods entering the US.  End
