MUMBAI – Vedanta Ltd. Tuesday said 10 workers of its subcontractor, NGSL, died from injuries sustained after an "incident" at a boiler of Athena power plant in Singhitarai, Chhattisgarh. While the company did not mention the nature of the incident, media reports said the boiler had exploded. Further, 24 workers of the contractor were injured in the incident, as per the company's filing late Monday.

The company said it has initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the details. "The Company is extending full support to the injured and is closely coordinating with the attending medical teams and local authorities," the filing said. 

Monday, shares of Vedanta closed nearly 1% higher at INR 752.55 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. For the December quarter, the company reported consolidated net profit of INR 57.10 billion on revenues of INR 233.69 billion.  End
