NEW DELHI – Firing a fresh salvo in the ongoing tensions, US President Donald Trump said Monday that if Iran's "fast attack ships come anywhere close to our BLOCKADE, they will be immediately ELIMINATED, using the same system of kill that we use against the drug dealers on boats at sea." Trump claimed that Iran's navy is lying at the bottom of the sea, completely obliterated.
On Sunday, Trump said the US Navy would close off the Strait of Hormuz, after negotiators from both sides failed to reach an agreement on a peace deal. Iranian negotiators met a delegation led by US Vice President J.D. Vance in Pakistan on Saturday for the first direct peace talks since the war in West Asia began.
In a post on Truth Social on Monday, Trump said the US had so far not hit Iran's fast attack ships because they were not considered much of a threat. The US Central Command forces will begin implementing a blockade of all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports at 1930 IST Monday.
The West Asia war started after the US and Israel bombed Tehran and killed its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini on Feb. 28. Since then, Iran has effectively shut the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting the transit of around a fifth of the world's crude oil. End
