MUMBAI – Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd. and Motherson Sumi Wiring India Ltd. Monday said the recent labour protests in Noida and other cities demanding higher wages haven't had any material impact on the companies. "This is a broader labour issue affecting multiple industries in Noida and some other cities, driven by misinformation being spread about wage revisions. Our operations remain compliant with all applicable laws, with no material impact on the company," the two companies said in separate statements.

The companies said the protest arose due to "misinformation being spread about wage revisions". "The safety of our employees remains our top priority. The authorities are working closely with the industry to bring things back to normal as quickly as possible," the companies said.

The Times of India newspaper quoted an employee of Motherson Sumi, alleging that he was "beaten up" when he protested and demanded higher wages.

On Monday, shares of Samvardhana Motherson closed 2.5% lower at INR 119.11 on the National Stock Exchange, while those of Motherson Sumi ended 2% lower at INR 38.53.
