IMD sees heatwaves in parts of Odisha Mon-Tue, Chhattisgarh Tue-Thu

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has warned of heatwave conditions in parts of Odisha on Monday and Tuesday, and in Chhattisgarh from Tuesday to Thursday. Hot and humid weather is also likely in parts of Gangetic West Bengal from Monday to Wednesday, in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh till Thursday, and in coastal Maharashtra and Karnataka till Saturday, the department said. Similar weather is also expected in parts of Gujarat from Sunday to Thursday, and in Tamil Nadu and coastal Karnataka till Sunday, it said.
Maximum temperatures in northwest India are expected to gradually rise by 6–8 degrees Celsius till Thursday, the weather bureau said. In central India, maximum temperatures are likely to slowly rise by 3–5 degrees Celsius till Tuesday, and over east India, they are likely to rise by 5–7 degrees Celsius during the same period, the bureau said.
In Gujarat, the maximum temperature is likely to rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius till Monday, the weather department said. The maximum temperature in Maharashtra is expected to gradually rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius till Tuesday, the department said.
No significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the rest of the country, the weather bureau said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam, and another such weather system lies over northeast Bihar. These weather systems are expected to lead to heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, the weather department said. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh till Tuesday, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Saturday, the department said.
A north-south trough runs from interior Odisha to the Gulf of Mannar, the weather bureau said. Under its influence, a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Sunday, the bureau said.
No significant weather activities are likely over northwest and central India during the next one week, the weather department said. End
