MUMBAI – JSW Steel Ltd. Thursday reported consolidated steel production of 7.43 million tonnes for the March quarter, down 3% on year. In India, production in Jan-Mar fell 2% on year to 7.28 million tonnes as the Blast Furnace 3 at Vijaynagar in Karnataka has been shut for capacity upgradation since September, the company said in an exchange filing.
The capacity of the company's Salem unit in Tamil Nadu increased to 1.15 million tonnes per annum in March from 1 million tonnes per annum earlier. This follows upgradation of one of its casters in January followed by the commissioning of a new ladle furnace and vacuum degasser in February, it said. JSW Steel's capacity utilisation for Indian operations was 96% excluding the Blast Furnace 3 capacity and 87% including it. Crude steel production at the company's Ohio operations rose to 150,000 tonnes in the March quarter from 230,000 tonnes a year ago.
In 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), the company reported crude steel production of 30.08 million tonnes, up 8% from the previous year. Its output in India in FY26 also rose 8% to 29.25 million tonnes. The capacity utilisation of Indian operations in FY26 was 92%, excluding the Blast Furnace 3 capacity and 87% including it.
JSW Steel's combined steel output, including JSW Sambalpur Steel Ltd., was 7.49 million tonnes in the March quarter and 30.14 million tonnes in FY26. Its steel business undertaking of subsidiary Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd. was transferred on a slump-sale basis to JSW Sambalpur Steel with effect from Mar. 27 towards the formation of a joint venture with JFE Steel Japan, the company said.
For the December quarter, JSW Steel had reported a consolidated net profit of INR 21.39 billion on a revenue of INR 459.91 billion. Thursday, shares of the company closed 1.3% higher at INR 1,209.7 on the National Stock Exchange. End
