MUMBAI – Hot and humid weather conditions are likely over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala till Thursday and over parts of coastal Karnataka from Thursday to Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Similar weather is expected over parts of Konkan and Goa on Friday and Saturday, over the coastal parts of Gujarat from Saturday to Tuesday, and over Odisha from Sunday to Tuesday, the weather department said.

The weather bureau issued an alert for hot and humid weather when maximum temperatures remain 3 degrees Celsius above normal, along with above-normal relative humidity.

A western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh, the weather department said. Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining south Pakistan, and an east-west trough runs from Uttar Pradesh to Manipur, the department said. Under the influence of these weather systems, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over most parts of northwest India till Saturday, the department said. Another western disturbance is likely to affect the region from Saturday, it said.

The presence of the east-west trough is also likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday and Sunday, over Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday and Friday, and Tripura on Thursday, the weather bureau said. Hailstorms are also expected over parts of Meghalaya till Thursday, the bureau said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over multiple parts of northeast India in the next five days, it said.

Light to moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from Thursday to Sunday, over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand on Thursday, and over Odisha on Thursday and Friday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather is expected over parts of Chhattisgarh till Thursday, the bureau said.

In the western Himalayan region, maximum temperatures are expected to gradually rise 6–8 degrees Celsius from Thursday to Tuesday, the weather department said. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely in the plains of northwest India during the next 24 hours, except Uttar Pradesh, where it is expected to fall 2–4 degrees Celsius, the department said. Maximum temperatures over the plains are expected to rise 8–10 degrees Celsius from Thursday to Tuesday, it said.

In central India, maximum temperatures are likely to rise 3–5 degrees Celsius from Thursday to Tuesday, while in east India, they are expected to rise 4–6 degrees Celsius from Friday to Tuesday, the weather department said. In Gujarat, the maximum temperature is expected to rise 2–4 degrees Celsius from Thursday to Tuesday, and in Maharashtra, it is likely to rise gradually by 2–3 degrees Celsius till Saturday, the department said.

No significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the rest of the country, the weather bureau said.  End
