MUMBAI – Tata Steel Ltd. Tuesday said its India operations manufactured a record high quantity of crude steel in the March quarter at 6.25 million tonnes, up 15% from 5.44 million tonnes produced in the corresponding quarter last year. The growth in production was attributed to a ramp-up in output at Tata Steel's Kalinganagar factory, though this was partly offset by shutdown of the 'G' blast furnace for relining in Jamshedpur.

The company's domestic deliveries rose over 10% on year to 6.19 million tonnes in the March quarter, primarily aided by strong sales in the domestic market.

The data for India operations, which are provisional, include standalone production by Tata Steel and Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd. on a proforma basis. In 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), Tata Steel produced 23.48 million tonnes of crude steel in India, compared with 21.68 million tonnes a year ago. For FY26, it delivered 22.53 million tonnes, higher than 20.94 million tonnes a year ago.

Production of liquid steel at Tata Steel's Netherlands unit was at 1.63 million tonnes in the March quarter, unchanged on year. Its deliveries in the region fell nearly 3% on year to 1.70 million tonnes.

In Thailand, its steel production stood at 320,000 tonnes, unchanged from the quantity produced a year ago, due to stronger domestic rebar sales. Deliveries in the region stood at 340,000 tonnes, slightly higher than 330,000 tonnes a year ago.

In the UK, the company is serving its customers through the downstream processing of purchased substrate. "Work is progressing with respect to the setup of around 3 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) Electric Arc Furnace at Port Talbot," the company said. In the March quarter, its UK plant recorded deliveries of 520,000 tonnes of steel, down from 630,000 tonnes a year ago due to subdued market dynamics.

For the December quarter, Tata Steel had reported a net profit of INR 26.89 billion on a consolidated basis on revenue of INR 570.02 billion. At 1357 IST, its shares were flat at INR 196 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
