Indian Railways approves INR 13.64 billion for infrastructure projects

NEW DELHI – The Indian Railways has approved projects worth INR 13.64 billion to strengthen safety, signalling, and communication infrastructure across multiple zones, according to a press release by the Ministry of Railways.

 

The approved works include the installation of Kavach train collision avoidance systems, the expansion of optical fibre communication networks, and the replacement of manual panel interlocking with electronic interlocking systems.

 

Kavach Version 4.0 will be installed on 232 locomotives of Southern Railway at a cost of INR 2.09 billion, as per the release.

 

Projects worth INR 4.01 billion have been sanctioned to strengthen the communication backbone of Northern Railway, including deployment of 48 fibre optic cable networks across Ambala, Delhi, and Lucknow divisions, covering over 3,200 kilometre route. North Central Railway will see an investment of INR 1.77 billion for laying optical fibre cables over 2,196 kilometre route spanning Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Agra divisions.

 

In South Central Railway, INR 5.78 billion has been approved to replace panel interlocking with electronic interlocking at 49 stations across high-density routes in Guntakal and Nanded divisions.  End
