MUMBAI - Hailstorms are expected over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and west Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday, over Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till Wednesday, over west Rajasthan till Tuesday, east Rajasthan on Tuesday, and east Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Heavy rainfall is also expected over parts of the Kashmir Valley till Tuesday and over Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, the weather department said.

Currently, a western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over Jammu and Kashmir, while another acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over the south Caspian Sea, the weather department said. These weather systems are also likely to cause light to moderate rainfall or snowfall over several parts of northwest India till Friday, the department said. Another fresh western disturbance is expected to affect the region from Saturday.

A trough in the westerlies lies to the northeast of the country, which is expected to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh till Tuesday, on Thursday, and on Sunday, over Assam and Meghalaya on Wednesday and Sunday, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Thursday, the weather bureau said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of northeast India is likely in the next five days, the bureau said.

An upper cyclonic circulation lies over westcentral Bay of Bengal, off south coastal Andhra Pradesh, and another such weather system lies over Odisha, the weather bureau said. These weather systems are expected to cause a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of east India in the next five days. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over parts of

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Wednesday, over Jharkhand on Tuesday and Wednesday, Bihar on Wednesday, and over Odisha till Wednesday.

A trough runs from northeast Uttar Pradesh to east Vidarbha, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Vidarbha, the weather department said. Under the influence of these weather systems, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over parts of central India in the next three to four days, the department said.

Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is also likely over parts of Gujarat on Tuesday, the weather department said.

An upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over Telangana, from which a trough runs to the Gulf of Mannar, the weather bureau said. This is likely to cause a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of south peninsular India till Friday, the bureau said.

Hot and humid weather conditions are expected over parts of Tamil Nadu till Tuesday, the weather bureau said. An alert for hot and humid weather is issued when maximum temperatures remain 3 degrees Celsius above normal, along with above-normal relative humidity.

Day temperatures are expected to remain below-normal to near-normal over most parts of northwest, central, and east India in the next five days, after which they are likely to rise by 3–5 degrees Celsius, the weather department said.  End
